<\/p>\nFrontline fighter jets and\u00a0 aerobatic display teams of the Indian Air Force (IAF) streaked across the skies of the capital city offering a visual treat of the prowess of the nation\u2019s ‘guardians of the skies’.<\/p>\n
The two-day Airshow marked the 30th anniversary celebrations of the Southern Air Command (SAC).<\/p>\n

IAF’s prestigious aircraft Sukhoi Fighter aircraft Sukhoi-30s and Jaguars displayed their might in a series of combat manoeuvres. The famed \u2018Sarang\u2019 helicopters of the IAF followed with an aerobatic display. The helicopters crossed so close to each other that their rotor wings almost touched each other.<\/p>\n

After the colourful display of ‘Sarang’, it was the turn of the sky diving team \u2018Akash Ganga\u2019 to enthral viewers with their high-adrenalin, high altitude daredevilry. Apart from this there was also a synchronised drill demonstration by the Air Warriors Drill team, Paragliding and a performance by the Air Force Band.<\/p>\n

It was on July 20, 1984, that the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, inaugurated the Headquarters of Southern Air Command at \u2018Belhaven Palace,\u2019 the former palace of the Maharaja of erstwhile Travancore in Trivandrum. With the increase in strength of personnel and operation importance, the headquarters was later relocated to its current location on August 8, 1996.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n
A \u2018Time Capsule\u2019 was also installed by Air Marshal A. P. Garud, AOC-in-C, SAC, as part of SAC\u2019s 30th anniversary celebrations. The capsule contains details of the activities of SAC and units under its area of responsibility since its inception in 1984.<\/p>\n
