In a bid to prevent waste dumping in the Palayam ward, Trivandrum City Corporation has decided to install 20 surveillance cameras at various important points in the area.<\/p>\n
The heavy duty cameras are equipped with infrared detectors to provide night-vision capabilities. IR illuminators enable the cameras to deliver high-quality images in low light conditions. Clear images of people who dispose waste under the cover of night can be captured using the night vision cameras.<\/p>\n
“Mostly people use darkness to dump waste. If we are to catch them, we need images as evidence and cameras usually don’t capture images in pitch-dark conditions. The addition of IR illuminators could resolve this problem,” a Keltron official said to TOI.<\/p>\n
All the cameras will be connected to a control room using optical fibre cables. The control room will be set up inside the health inspector office at Palayam. Each camera would cost around Rs 30,000-35,000.<\/strong> The technical assistance in installation of cameras will be provided by Keltron.<\/p>\n The narrow road from RBI office to Vazhuthacaud is often dumped with all sorts of garbage. Wastes such as thermocol, plastic bags, broken glass pieces, along with kitchen waste are dumped on the roadside at Lenin Nagar. Small dumping yards have also developed at Bakery Junction, near the fly-over and behind the Palayam market.<\/p>\n Palayam is among the four wards in the city that was declared as \u2018garbage-free\u2019 wards under the \u2018My City, Beautiful City\u2019 scheme. The declaration was made on the basis of a report by an expert committee, which inspected the wards to check whether they met the guidelines specified.<\/p>\n
