TRDCL has submitted an alternative proposal to Kerala road fund board (KRFB) after it failed to clear the hurdles before the Vanchiyoor-Uppidamoodu road widening project.<\/p>\n
The new proposal includes widening of Central Theatre Road using the same method planned for Vanchiyoor-Uppidamoodu stretch. With this new proposal, traders who are evicted for road widening project can be rehabilitated on this stretch.<\/p>\n
Vanchiyoor-Uppidamoodu road widening project got stuck on the issue of felling of around 49 trees. Later TRDCL was given sanction to fell 16 trees and accommodate the remaining in the median. However TRDCL reported that the company was unable to carry out the work as their cranes required to lift heavy prefabricated cement boxes get stuck between the trees.<\/p>\n
The rehabilitation of traders, who were evicted for Thakarapparambu flyover project and MG Road widening, is also stuck on the issue of felling of trees at Attakkulangara.<\/p>\n
According to TRDCL, the canal near the Central Theatre Road can be covered using C-shaped cement boxes. The top layer will be covered using cement blocks. Thus the space can be used to rehabilitate displaced traders.<\/p>\n
“Construction of Thakarapparambu flyover will be completed in some months. We have to complete the work. There is no point in continuing with the project. As per the agreement, we have to construct a 300-metre stretch by covering the canal. We have suggested that we will do it on Central Theatre Road,” said a TRDCL official to TOI.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile KRFB officials said that they haven\u2019t dropped the Vanchiyoor-Uppidamoodu road widening project from CRIP. A decision on felling of trees is still pending.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
