The Trivandrum city corporation will install 61 napkin vending machines incorporated with incinerators at select government offices and women\u2019s educational institutes in the city soon.<\/p>\n
This first-of-its-kind initiative is an extension of a scheme originally meant for girls’ schools run by the city corporation.<\/p>\n
The facility can be availed at a cost of Rs 5<\/strong> per napkin. These vending machines would work like ATMs. The vending machines will have incinerators to address the growing complaints regarding unscientific disposal of sanitary waste in most offices. \u00a0The project will cover 41 locations<\/strong> including various government offices, schools and colleges.<\/p>\n The price and installation of each machine will range between Rs 40,000 and 42,000. An amount of Rs 30 lakh has been allotted for the scheme.\u00a0 The project is being implemented by the health-wing of the corporation.<\/p>\n A series of consultations with companies have given the civic body an option to go for vending machines with incinerators. The health-wing has proposed a long-term working model by which the company will have to enter into an operation and maintenance agreement with the corporation for a fixed period of time. Corporation is looking at devices that have lower power consumption and long-term maintenance.
