The upcoming National Games<\/a> will have a green tint.\u00a0 Already proclaimed to be a \u2018truly Green Games,\u2019 the novel initiative is carried out by the National Games Organising Committee with the help of the Kerala Suchitwa Mission.<\/p>\n

Suchitwa Mission has proposed the idea of\u00a0‘zero-waste campaign’<\/strong> to conduct a clean and green environment-friendly National Games discarding use of all disposable items during the games. However, Suchitwa Mission is struggling to find sponsorships and viable business models to make sure that the idea translates into reality.<\/p>\n

The green protocol committee has decided to avoid disposable plates and serve food in reusable plates, spoons and cups. The main challenge faced by Suchitwa Mission is to supply alternatives in 31 venues<\/strong>, across seven districts. These include Steel glasses, tumblers, dispensers, cups and similar reusable articles.<\/p>\n

“Responsible citizens and entities are invited to support the green initiative by providing or sponsoring non-disposable cutleries and glasses to serve food at venues and sports village,” said Suchitwa Mission executive director K Vasuki.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Residents associations in Trivandrum have expressed their willingness to clean up the city before the delegates arrive. Scout and guide volunteers will also support the drive.<\/p>\n

Games venues will be declared waste-free zones. Those caught littering in the Games Village and venues will be fined. Cloth banners about keeping the Games venues and facilities clean will be put up at railway stations, airports, Games Village and other related facilities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
