An action plan for a ‘Slum-free’ Capital city has been envisaged by the city corporation.<\/p>\n
The project is part of the nation-wide Rajiv Awas Yojana programme which aims to make India slum-free by 2022 by providing people with shelter or housing, free of cost. A stake-holder discussion on the Slum Free City Plan of Action (SFCPoA) draft was held.<\/p>\n
The project with a total outlay of Rs.1,205 crore, envisages making capital a slum-free city within seven years.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The 3 alternative plans as part of the project are to rebuild the existing slum, renovate the existing slum or relocate from the slum. \u00a0As per the plan, 7 slums out of the 179 slums needed total replacement, 128 needed improvement and 44 need to be approached with redevelopment strategy. The assessment has been made based on parameters such as housing, infrastructure and poverty\/socio-economic status. Analysis was also done to prioritise the slums that needed urgent renovation in a five-year programme.<\/p>\n
The target is for constructing 5645 houses by 2021. To achieve the target, 50% funding from Central Government, 30% from the State Government and 10% from the urban local body and beneficiary contribution is planned.<\/p>\n
The draft action plan was presented by Alok, urban planner of Noida-based DMG Consulting. It was followed by a discussion in which experts and councillors participated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
