With an aim to curb atrocities against women in the capital, Trivandrum City Police has started Fem Patrol (FP) to tackle such cases exclusively. The scheme, envisaged by the city police under the Janamaithri project, was mooted by deputy commissioner of police S Ajeetha Begum for women’s safety.<\/p>\n

Fem Patrol empowers women and girls from Class XI in the city to fight against and report harassments they experience. Under the Fem Patrol scheme, police will visit educational institutions, private and public offices to train volunteers and groom them as police informers.<\/p>\n

Volunteers will be trained in Krav Maga -an Israeli self-defence system and also given legal awareness classes. Krav Maga means combat with contact’ and uses simple moves to help defend oneself in the event of an attack by targeting the offender’s vulnerable body parts. Women may register for free at city police women cells or police stations and be a part of Fem Patrol.<\/p>\n

That’s not all! FemPatrol has also opened a Facebook page<\/a> and Whatsapp account to tackle the crimes. Victims of eve-teasing can take photographs or videos on their mobile phones and report the crime via Facebook or through WhatsApp. Volunteers may contact the toll-free numbers 100\/1091 or call the DCP at 94979 96988 or get in touch with the inspector of Police Women Cell (94979 87014) for appropriate legal action. Confidentiality would be maintained and complaints would be addressed immediately.<\/p>\n

Currently, the patrol\u2019s mode of operation is sending policemen and women constables in mufti on city buses and to other select spots where girl students are regularly victims of teasing and other forms of harassment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
