The acute shortage of red earth and gravel has almost stalled the works. About 1.9 lakh cubic metre of gravel is needed for the widening of Karamana-Pravachambalam stretch alone.<\/p>\n
As the quarrying activities at Mookkunnimala have been stopped, the company behind the project is trying to bring raw materials from nearby districts. Apart from the delay this method will escalate the cost of construction. The shortage of raw materials has hit the Kundamankadavu Bridge too. Though the bridge is complete, the bridge could not be opened due to delay in construction of the approach road.<\/p>\n
Besides road works, construction of buildings too have been dealt a severe blow. What worries government departments is that most of the works have to be completed by March when the financial year would draw to a close.<\/p>\n
