The flood mitigation project currently carried out at Thampanoor has hit a roadblock at a site close to the Indian Coffee House.<\/p>\n
The project which is being implemented at a cost of Rs 21 crore<\/strong> halted as Indian Coffee House and the state urban development project (KSUDP) got into a dispute over the project. Only about 30 metres of work near the coffee house is remaining and according to the reports, the inauguration of the completed project has been postponed owing to the dispute.<\/p>\n According to KSUDP, the widening of the canal could rattle the foundation of the ageing building. The Coffee House had agreed for a settlement and demanded that the kitchen would be shifted to a spot allotted by the KSRTC. However, KSUDP officials said that Coffee house had gone back on the agreement, claiming that the promised spot does not have electrical and water connection.<\/p>\n Indian Coffee House wants the restaurant to open during the widening work while the KSUDP officials wants to close down the restaurant temporarily as it causes serious safety issues. Due the dispute the project has been stalled for nearly nine months.<\/p>\n As per the DPR, the canal needs to be widened to 6 metres at the place where the ICH is located. The canal will be 3 metres deep. The work area could extend up to 1.5 metres close to the foundation of the ICH and culverts will be built on the spot to divert the flow of water along the canal.
