Turns out, major projects under CRDP Phase-1 are still on paper.<\/p>\n<p>According to the reports, CRDP-I has only &#8216;City Roads Improvement Project&#8217; to boast of. Some of the major works such as improvement of 42km of roads, including Thakaraparambu flyover, is nearing completion. However other projects such as Theerapadham and construction of long distance bus terminal at Enchakkal is yet to take off.<\/p>\n<p>Theerapadham is aimed at removing pollution from Akkulam Lake and Parvathy Puthanar and develop the banks of the canal for tourism, residential and commercial activities. To implement the project a &#8216;Theerapadham Urban Development Project&#8217; nodal agency was also formed.<\/p>\n<p>Along with this a drinking water project was also planned. Pipes procured were of poor quality and were not at all suited for the work. Due to lack of proper planning, the procured pipes remain unused, wasting tax payer&#8217;s money. Cases related to delay in distribution of compensation to landowners are also pending in court.<\/p>\n<p>Inefficiency, improper planning and the lack of a coordinating agency caused the CRDP Phase-1 projects to halt.
