With Attukal Pongala set to start next week, Trivandrum City Police has come up with a detailed plan on the security measures to be taken during the festival period.<\/p>\n
As per the plan, around 2000 police personnel would be deployed for the Attukal duty. This includes special squads with three SPs and 15 Assistant Commissioners. Three police aid posts will set up at several spots in the area.<\/p>\n

A total of 200 women<\/strong> police will also be deployed to tackle inter-state women thieves in the area. It is a common phenomenon that every year the city witnesses a huge influx of thieves and pick-pockets, especially women, during Attukal festival. To further strengthen the security, the Attukal temple and surrounding areas will be under constant surveillance of CCTV cameras. For this a total of 100 closed circuit cameras<\/strong> will be placed in the festival zone.\u00a0 These cameras will be used till March 6 and will be monitored from a control room near the temple premises.<\/p>\n
City police have also asked temple authorities to construct barricades in front of the temple to control the devotees as, last year, the crowd became out of control and there was a stampede-like situation.
