The original deadline for commissioning was March 31, but minor technical snags pushed the deadline to April end.

The two remaining spans are located on the Thakaraparambu side. Initially it was planned to start work on three spans simultaneously, but traffic requirements prevented the work from shutting off the road for the work which caused the delay. Meanwhile work on the approach roads have been completed. Once the spans are complete, work on carriageway and tarring can be completed soon.

The flyover has a total of 13 spans and 11 pillars. Only one span cuts the MG road but this proved to be a major technological challenge in the construction of the bridge. TRDCL had set a 150-day deadline for erecting the main span and completed it in 155 days.

Thakaraparambu fly-over is the only major work awaiting completion in the first phase of CRIP, which aimed at developing 42.53 kms of city roads. A number of factors such as rehabilitation of the traders had delayed the construction of the fly-over.

When completed, the flyover is expected to make traffic flow easier in the East Fort region.

The work on the much-awaited Thakarapparambu fly-over is expected to be ready for commissioning by April-end this year!
