The protestors are waiting for the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report and the DPR to approach the National Green Tribunal.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Agitators claim that around 60,000 houses would be brought down and 2.5 lakh people displaced if the project is implemented.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Agitators claim that 60,000 houses would be brought down and 2.2 lakh people living along the 526-km stretch would be evicted. Also the government need to acquire 15,780 acres of land to implement the project. \u00a0An action council claiming support of around 55,000 families also submitted another memorandum to the Chief Secretary demanding the project shelved.<\/p>\n<p>The activists said that, around <strong>50 meters of land<\/strong> would be \u201cfrozen\u201d on both sides of the track. Though the acquisition is limited to 20 meters, a landowner will lose 120 meters in the no-construction zone.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) who is preparing the detailed project report (DPR) has sought police protection to finish its field survey. DMRC will submit the DPR on March 31.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Though the acquisition is limited to 20 meters, a landowner will lose 120 meters in the no-construction zone.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It was in 2013 that Kerala government proposed the high-speed rail corridor an ambitious project that connects Trivandrum with Kasaragod. However, during 2014 the mega project was scrapped by State Planning Board. Now in the wake of the Union government\u2019s plan to extend the Bangalore-Coimbatore high-speed rail project to Kochi, the project is gaining momentum once again.<\/p>\n<p>Billed as the biggest and most expensive infrastructure projects conceived by Kerala, the high speed rail corridor project is estimated (at 2011) to cost Rs 1,18,000 crore. Japan\u2019s Jica is expected to fund 80 percent of the project cost while the Centre and state governments will have to meet the remaining expenses.<\/p>\n<p>The train will have a speed of 300 km per hour and will reach Mangalore from Trivandrum in less than 3 hours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Are you in favour of the project or against it?
