Now auto-rickshaw drivers in the city will turn caregivers for the road accident victims.<\/p>\n
The health wing of Trivandrum City Corporation is coming up with an innovative accident care mission by incorporating autorickshaw drivers in the city. Corporation has held discussions with Bengaluru-based firm Vcare regarding the project.<\/p>\n
The project which is likely to be named ‘Angels’ will consists of a special group of auto-rickshaw drivers at each junction to provide emergency first aid and transportation for accident victims within the area where they ply. A multi-path communication channel will be developed to establish common connectivity among its members\u00a0via a dedicated mobile app. Angels would play the role of an ambulance service, but with increased availability and accessibility.<\/p>\n
The caregivers can be reached via toll-free number. There will also be an option to send SMS to volunteers registered in the group. All volunteers selected for the group will be given free internet package as part of the mission. A control room will constantly update Angels about the accident location and any group member can respond to the SMS with a standardized reply.<\/p>\n
The drivers will be given training in first aid with the help of medical experts. The remuneration for the volunteers will be taken care of by the Corporation. At first the project will be implemented on a trial basis at 5-10 junctions. Once it proves viable it will be scaled up to other junctions.<\/p>\n
The disaster management cell under the United Nations Development Programme has already envisaged a similar citizen partnership mission for the city.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
