Giving a new hope for Vizhinjam Seaport project, the State Government has reportedly received positive signals from companies at a pre-bid meet on the Vizhinjam project held in Mumbai.<\/p>\n
Only two of the firms, Adani Ports and a consortium of Srei and OHL that had purchased the bid documents participated in the pre-bid meet, but the indications are that they are favourable to bidding for the project. The third firm, Essar Shipping, did not participate.<\/p>\n
Both companies had raised the absence of Cabotage relaxation as the main hindrance for not submitting the bid. The government team led by James Varghese, Principal Secretary (Ports), had briefed the companies of the efforts taken by the government to obtain Cabotage relaxation for the project.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile the Centre agreed to consider state government\u2019s request for relaxation in Cabotage Law for Vizhinjam. Union Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari has given his assurance that the Vizhinjam container transshipment terminal project would be granted cabotage relaxation.\u00a0 Cabotage relaxation for Vizhinjam will be similar to the one granted to the Vallarpadom ICTT project.<\/p>\n
Kerala\u2019s dream project Vizhinjam Port project received a serious setback when none of the three bidders in the fray turned up.
