The Bengaluru-Chennai-Coimbatore-Ernakulam-Trivandrum High Speed Rail Corridor is back in the lime light as Minister of State; Manoj Sinha said that the project was very much in the pipeline.<\/p>\n

During the last UPA government, a feasibility study was carried out. But when the new government came to power, the rail line was restricted to Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysore. Fortunately that has been changed.<\/p>\n

While the Railways had initially considered the Chennai-Bengaluru-Ernakulam line, it was decided to extend the line to Trivandrum.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Japanese agency that conducted the feasibility studies approved the path, however not action has been taken up so far to implement the project.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Kerala government has taken the steps to speed up survey for the Trivandrum-Mangalore high-speed rail corridor project. DMRC has completed 60% of the survey. The remaining survey had been hit following a public outcry<\/a>. DMRC will soon prepare a DPR regarding the project.<\/p>\n

Billed as the biggest and most expensive infrastructure projects conceived by Kerala, the high speed rail corridor project is estimated (at 2011) to cost Rs 1,18,000 crore. Japan\u2019s JICA is expected to fund 80 percent of the project cost while the Centre and state governments will have to meet the remaining expenses.<\/p>\n

The train will have a speed of 300 km per hour and will reach Mangalore from Trivandrum in less than 3 hours.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
