Juice shops operating in the city so far has been under the radar of Food Safety Authority. Now that\u2019s going to change.<\/p>\n
The Commissioner of Food Safety has issued a set of guidelines to be followed by all juice shops across the State. The guidelines were issued after numerous cases of food poisoning from juice shops were reported.<\/p>\n
According to the guideline, all fresh juice shops should display FSSA licence or registration. The water and ice being used in these shops should be safe and of the prescribed quality. The quality of water should be tested every 6 months at a government-approved analytical laboratory and the reports should be produced for inspection.<\/p>\n
The guidelines also say that fruits used in the shops should of good quality and any trace of fungus or signs of decaying should not be present. The fruits and perishable items should be stored in a refrigerator. Prepared juice should not be stored for long in refrigerators.<\/p>\n
All food items, including water, in the shops should be stored in proper containers of food-grade quality. The ingredients used for making fresh juices such as fruits, sugar, nuts, and other additives should be bought only from traders who have a FSSA licence and the purchase bills should be kept.\u00a0 All the details of purchase should be kept in a register systematically.<\/p>\n
