Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor has urged the Civil Aviation Ministry to maintain the \u2018international airport\u2019 status of the Trivandrum International airport and enhance domestic and international air connectivity from the capital.<\/p>\n
“I have also sought an assurance that the airport’s international status will not be disturbed or afffected by the new policy,” he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
MP requested the central to maintain the international airport status of the Trivandrum International airport in view of the New Draft Aviation Policy proposing only 6 international hubs at six metro airports. There should be provision to include Trivandrum as an international hub as per the new Draft Civil Aviation Policy or alternative provision to ensure the continuation and expansion of existing international services, the MP said.<\/p>\n
Tharoor also said that Central government should grant approvals to airlines, who are seeking to launch their services from the state capital. He cited that Malaysian carrier Malindo Air’s request to start operations from Trivandrum is still pending with the DGCA since a long time.<\/p>\n
Tharoor also asked the Government to allow the Saudi Arabia Airlines to operate from the capital following cancellation of their flights from Kozhikode in the wake of runway repair work at Calicut airport.<\/p>\n
