Kerala Cricket Association’s maiden first-class Cricket stadium in the capital will be opened today.\u00a0 Sports Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan will inaugurate the St Xavier\u2019s College Cricket Ground at Thumba, today.<\/p>\n

According to KCA, the ground has been modelled on the lines of those in Australia and England.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Spread over an area of 6.3 acre the stadium was built as a part of KCA’s mission 20-20 plan to build 14 stadiums in the state. According to KCA, the ground has been modelled on the lines of those in Australia and England. It is also the first cricket ground in Kerala to sport nine pitches.<\/p>\n

The stadium has a radius between 79m and 82m at any point making it the largest cricket ground in Kerala. The two pitches will be used to host first class matches while the other five will be utilised for district, club, college and school- level matches. The rest will be used for training purposes.<\/p>\n

Another speciality of the stadium is that, instead of the pavilion, the stadium has grass seats for the audience. Bermuda grass is planted across the stadium and sprinklers are installed in 6 corners for watering. The ground is designed in such a way to ensure that rain water drains out within 15 minutes. The construction of the stadium and players Pavilion took 2 years to complete costing Rs 4 crore<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The stadium was built by KCA in association with Thumba St Xavier’s College. It will be managed by the KCA for a period of 10 years after which it will be handed over to the college authorities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
