It was in 2013 when the much-anticipated slum eradication housing project called the ‘Rajiv Awas Yojana’ (RAY) was launched at Mathipuram Colony in Vizhinjam. Now after two years the project is entering its second phase while genuinely raising doubts on the first phase, which lies incomplete.<\/p>\n
According to the report, as many as 100 houses are yet to be handed over to the beneficiaries in first phase. Meanwhile the second phase has a target of 221 houses. Officials from the RAY Cell said that works on the first phase will go on alongside with the second phase.<\/p>\n
Authorities cited technical snag as the reason for the delay. The official version is that the company called Hindustan Prefab Limited which was given the tender, sub-tendered it to another firm, whose time period got already over delaying the project.<\/p>\n
Only those who pay beneficiary contribution of 12% will get the house at the earliest and the others will have to wait.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Recently, Trivandrum city Corporation handed over the keys of the transit accommodation to the families who are to get houses in phase two. Transit accommodation is provided to the most financially backward families who cannot afford to pay rent during the construction period. For the 320 families, as many as 150 homes will be built. Even for completed houses in the first phase, only those who pay beneficiary contribution of 12% will get the house at the earliest and the others will have to wait.<\/p>\n
The project, which had a DPR preparation towards the fag end of 2011, had the works started off in December 2013 crossing several hurdles. The entire project that is being piloted at Mathipuram envisages construction of 1,032 homes in four phases.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
