State government has finally granted sanction to implement the light metro project in Trivandrum and Kozhikode.<\/p>\n
A high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy also cleared a major bottleneck by giving administrative sanction of Rs 850 crore for widening the 14km of road for the light metro projects in the two cities.<\/p>\n
The state government has sanctioned Rs 500 crore<\/strong>\u00a0for the 8 km National Highway 66 stretch from Kazhakuttam to Kesavadasapuram in the capital and Rs 350 crore<\/strong> for 6 km stretch from Mananchira to Meenchantha in Kozhikode to accommodate the pillars of MRTS in the median.<\/p>\n At least 250 concrete structures would have to be fully demolished to facilitate the project<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The 8 km from Kazhakuttam to Kesavadasapuram is Reach II of the 21.82 km proposed from Technocity to Karamana for the MRTS. The road will have right of way of 24 metres when developed. It is estimated that around 500 buildings including residential structures will be demolished fully or partially to facilitate the widening of Kesavadasapuram \u2013Kazhakootam stretch. At least 250 concrete structures would have to be fully demolished to facilitate the project<\/p>\n According to PWD authorities, the project would prove very costly for the government. Land acquisition itself would cost around Rs 500 crore or more. As per the new land acquisition Act, compensation should be double the cost of the land to be acquired for development in urban areas.<\/p>\n PWD will forward the alignment sketch along with the request to the revenue department within two weeks. After that PWD will demarcate the boundary lines on both sides of the stretch. The survey report was prepared by NATPAC in February 2013. The cost of the civil work is likely to go up further and the rates have to be revised as per 2015 schedule of rates.
