One of our readers has brought to our attention that those who come to Trivandrum Railway Station have to shell out something extra on everything they buy from the stalls inside.<\/p>\n

Sudhish Aloysius Rozario recently had such an experience when he bought a pack of ‘Maa’ Mango juice from one of the stalls in Trivandrum Central. He had to pay Rs. 20<\/strong> for a pack of 200ml mango juice which is available for Rs.15<\/strong> everywhere else. When he enquired, it was found that, the same thing is going on in other stations of Southern Railway.<\/p>\n

By printing MRP as Rs. 20 on each pack, nobody will question them and they always get away with this fraud.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

By unfairly charging the customers, the manufacturer, distributers and retail stalls are fleecing the customers and making huge profits fraudulently. By printing MRP as Rs20 on each pack, nobody will question them and they always get away with this fraud. That’s not all! Since they are making huge profits on such sales, retail stalls in Railway Stations only stock this brand of juice.<\/p>\n

On realising this malpractice Sudhish filed a complaint at the head office of Legal Meteorology with clear evidence. However, they declined to take action citing that the seller is selling the product at the MRP rate printed. On insisting on a written reply, they said that they will enquire and get back to him indicating that a delay of 6 months can be expected.<\/p>\n

Subsequently, Sudhish approached the Deputy Station Master (commercial) whereupon he immediately visited the stall and assessed the real situation. The complaint was directed to the Senior Divisional Manager and he immediately contacted the Head Office at Chennai and recommended further proceedings. This too will take at least 2 months to conclude.<\/p>\n

In New theatre at Thampanoor, a packet of Lays which costs only Rs. 10<\/strong> is being sold at Rs. 20<\/strong> while the MRP is printed as\u00a0Rs. 18<\/strong>!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Meanwhile it seems the public has to continue to pay extra. Don\u2019t think that this malpractice is restricted to railway stations only. Sellers at airports and theatres are similarly making a fast buck at the expense of the public. For instance, in New theatre at Thampanoor, a packet of Lays which costs only Rs. 10<\/strong> is being sold at Rs. 20<\/strong> while the MRP is printed as Rs18!<\/p>\n
