The union minister for science and technology and earth sciences, Dr Harsh Vardhan, inaugurated the Bio Innovation Centre at the KINFRA Film and Video Park<\/strong> at nearby Kazhakootam. Bio Innovation Centre is poised to become a hub for mid and high level innovation founded on advanced level technical platforms and multidisciplinary core that will seed growth and innovation in bio-technology field.<\/p>\n Bio Innovation Centre is poised to become a hub high level innovation in the field of bio-technology.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The 50,000 sq feet<\/strong> innovation centre, set up with an outlay of Rs 100 crore, would create an environment where knowledge generated through fundamental research in disease biology and molecular medicine gets translated to innovative new tools and products. The facility is equipped with advanced platforms for next-generation genetic sequencing, high-end bio-imaging, and state-of-the-art molecular diagnostics to serve Kerala and its neighbouring States.<\/p>\n Already four important divisions of Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology has been shifted to BIC Phase-1. These are Microbiome Biology; Chemical Biology- I and II; Viral Disease Biology; and Laboratory Medicine and Molecular Diagnostics.<\/p>\n India is set to become home to the world’s third largest set-up in this field by 2025.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Phase 2 of the BIC, which is also under implementation over 20 acres, will include a state of the art research laboratories. It will include an \u2018Advanced Centre for Molecular & Cellular Therapeutics\u2019, a 75 bed hospital jointly run with the Regional Cancer Centre, which will offer cutting edge technologies, therapies and clinical trials for cancer vaccines, immunotherapeutics.
