The Indian Olympic Association has offered Kerala to host the 12th South Asian Games (SAG or SAF) in November-December after Assam and Meghalaya governments did not show interest in staging the regional multi-sporting event.<\/p>\n

The University Stadium will host the high-profile athletics competition while the International Aquatics Complex at Pirappancode would host swimming and diving events. Meanwhile, the Greenfield International Stadium in Kariyavattom which is expected to be ready by November could host cricket or football matches of the SAF Games. Competition will be held in 22 disciplines and the proposed budget estimate is Rs 70 crore.<\/p>\n

South Asian Games are a bi-annual multi-sport event held among the athletes from South Asia. The participating countries include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The last SAG were held in Bangladesh capital, Dhaka in 2010 and there were 23 disciplines, including Twenty20 cricket competed among Under-21 players.<\/p>\n
