After 10 years of waiting, the much-awaited Thakarapparambu fly-over will be open to public on May 31st.<\/p>\n
When completed, Thakarapparambu fly-over will become the longest fly-over in the city spanning a length of 410 meter.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The original deadline for commissioning was March 31, but minor technical snags pushed the deadline to May end.\u00a0 Work on carriageway and tarring are currently in progress and it will be completed within couple of days.<\/p>\n
Some stats about our Thakarapparambu fly-over<\/h3>\n
When completed, Thakarapparambu fly-over will become the longest fly-over in the city spanning a length of 410 meter. The flyover has a total of 13 spans and 11 pillars. Each span has a length between 25 to 45 meter and the fly-over has a width of 11 meter. At every 30 metre there will be street-lights.\u00a0 There are also special arrangements to drain the rain water. Only one span cuts the MG road but this proved to be a major technological challenge during the construction of the bridge.<\/p>\n
No-more traffic congestion<\/h3>\n
Once the fly-over is opened to public, it will significantly reduce the traffic on the East Fort-Over Bridge area. Vehicle coming from the Karamana side can easily reach By-Pass and avoid the busy East-Fort junction. This will in turn help to reduce the traffic congestion at East-fort side. People can also reach between Airport and Railway Station very easily avoiding traffic.<\/p>\n
Thakaraparambu fly-over is the only major work awaiting completion in the first phase of CRIP, which aimed at developing 42.53 kms of city roads. A number of factors such as rehabilitation of the traders had delayed the construction of the fly-over for almost 10 years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
