Trivandrum has got a new Internet Service Provider from an unlikely company, the Indian Railway.<\/p>\n
RailWire Broadband, an initiative of RailTel Corporation, the telecommunications arm of the Indian Railways has expanded launched its high speed internet service in Trivandrum. The new broadband service is available in Kazhakkoottam and Technopark areas.<\/p>\n

RailWire focuses on pure-play broadband and VPN services offering content & applications-driven network, flexibility & affordable pricing. RailWire currently delivers Internet speeds ranging from 512 kbps to 10 mbps that too without any cap.<\/p>\n
RailWire aims to become a hub of local information and a tool for rendering communication, infotainment, education, health and community services to the masses. Education, health and entertainment will be the primary verticals to be rolled-out in the Content Delivery Network (CDN).<\/p>\n

RailTel has set-up a countrywide circle of state-of-the-art optic fibre network. The company has constructed about 42,000 km of OFC network in the country, and work on another 7,500 km is in various stage of completion. The OFC network presently reaches to over 4,200 towns and cities, including rural areas.<\/p>\n
As part of its expansion plans, RailTel is exploring ways to facilitate broadband through WiFi at railway stations for convenience of passengers.<\/p>\n
