One more modern \u201ccommuter-friendly\u201d bus shelter designed for bus bays along 42 km of roads developed under the City Road Improvement Project has come up at Vellayambalam. The modern bus shelter is funded by Keltron with the design and execution by TRDCL.<\/p>\n
The six-metre long modern bus shelter has a polycarbonate roof, backlit panels, a flexi-glass information board, mild-steel seats and lighting. That’s not all! The bus shelter also provides Ananthapuri FM radio to commuters. The radio will allow waiting commuters to listen to music. The music streaming will be from 6AM to 10:30PM.<\/p>\n

While the flexi-glass board will display location maps, bus timings and such information, the backlit panels will be given for displaying public awareness messages or advertisements. The top front-panel of the shelter gives the name of the bus stop. About 40 commuters can wait at a time in the bus shelter, which runs the entire two-metre width of the footpath. There are two security cameras as well to keep an eye on anti-socials and ensure safety for people waiting in the shed late in the night.<\/p>\n

TRDCL had plans to construct 94 such bus shelters around the city. So far the company has completed six modern shelters in the city. However, providing FM music streaming is yet to take off since the Corporation is yet to provide power supply to these sheds. The one at Vellayambalam has power supply provided by Keltron.
