According to a recent study on traffic situation in the city, lack foot-overbridges and subways are cited as the main reason for traffic snarls in Trivandrum.<\/p>\n
DCP (Law and Order) K. Sanjay Kumar Gurudin\u2019s report based on the surveys by traffic policemen on real time traffic, states that one of the main reasons for traffic congestion in the city is the lack of subways and foot-overbridges, especially in front of schools and areas where pedestrian movement is high. It is found that an average of 119 people cross the road every minute in East Fort and 95 people cross the road every minute at Chala. The KSRTC terminal does not have even road markings.<\/p>\n

The police have identified various key spots for the installation of these facilities. The spots are St. Mary\u2019s School, Pattom; Medical College Junction; East Fort, Cotton Hill School Junction; Kareem\u2019s Junction, Chala and the Thampanoor KSRTC terminal. While one subway is being constructed at Nemom, another was announced near the Medical College, which still remains on paper.<\/p>\n
The report calls for installation of footpath railings as lack of this facility has led to obstructive parking and footpath parking. The Vellayambalam-Sasthamangalam stretch, Killippalam-Karamana area and Thampanoor-East Fort regions have been suggested to have footpath railings.<\/p>\n
Police have asked the PWD, NH Division and the Road Fund Board to take necessary steps in this regard. Another proposed suggestion is to separate private bus and KSRTC bus stops at East Fort. Recalling the proposal for a terminal at East Fort inside Attakulangara School, the DCP has suggested that NATPAC and TRIDA be addressed to submit a feasibility report after locating a place for a private bus terminal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
