Phase-2 of the massive clean-up drive of the Parvathy-Puthanar will start soon once the ongoing works are over, said Health Minister V S Sivakumar.<\/p>\n
After reviewing the progress of work on the 10 kilometre-stretch from Moonattumukku to Akkulam, state government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 4.25 crore for the implementation of phase-2 clean-up drive. Already, work on half of the stretch is over. Currently, the canal is cleaned once every 3 months. This work will be undertaken for a year.<\/p>\n

Last year, Water Resources Minister P J Joseph announced the Rs 4.5 crore clean-up project. At that time it was said that, the fund will be used to lay a sewage pipeline along its banks, from Moonnattumukku to the Muttathara sewage treatment plant. The clean-up was also aimed at clearing the drainage system of water hyacinths and construction of foot overbridges at selected places.<\/p>\n
