Finally after much anticipation, Kerala government has handed over the letter of award (LoA) for the mega Vizhinjam port project to sole bidder Adani Ports & SEZ Ltd. The document was e-mailed to Sumeet Agrawal, Senior Manager-Business Development, of the company on Monday, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have handed over the letter of intent to Adani Group today. It\u2019s a clean project. There is no controversy in it,\u201d said the Chief Minister. “We were anxious about the tender as Adani Group was the sole bidder. But that is over,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The LoA requires of the Adanis to execute the concession agreement within 45 days of its receipt and furnish the performance security of Rs. 120 crore. The group is expected to reply within seven days of receiving the order. Adani Group representatives are expected to reach the state on 20 July.<\/p>\n

The Adanis will now undertake development and operation\/maintenance of the Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport project on PPP mode and a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer basis.<\/p>\n
The Rs.4,000-crore first phase of the port is to come up near the famed tourist destination Kovalam and is expected to be completed in three phases, with the first phase being ready by 2019.
