After years of waiting, Thakaraparambu Flyover connecting Power House Road to Thakaraparambu is open to public on Tuesday (14th\/07\/2015).<\/p>\n
The flyover is expected to ease the traffic flow on MG Road especially on East Fort area.\u00a0 Vehicle coming from the Karamana side can easily reach By-Pass and avoid the busy East-Fort junction. This will in turn help to reduce the traffic congestion at East-fort side. People can also reach between Airport and Railway Station very easily avoiding traffic.<\/p>\n
However, the work of the new sewage line from Sreekanteswaram to Amayizhanjan canal underneath the bridge has reached nowhere. Earlier it was planned to construct the sewage line when the flyover work was progressing so that both could be completed together causing less inconvenience to road users. Now when the work of the sewage line begins, the traffic beneath the flyover needs to be closed.<\/p>\n
Two lanes of the 3-lane flyover will be open at all times while the third lane will be used only during emergency situations such as vehicle breakdown or accidents.\u00a0 Thakarapparambu fly-over is the longest fly-over in the city spanning a length of 410 meter. The flyover has a total of 13 spans and 11 pillars. At every 30 metre there will be street-lights. There are also special arrangements to drain the rain water. Only one span cuts the MG road but this proved to be a major technological challenge during the construction of the bridge. Temporary road marking has been painted on the bridge which will pave way to permanent thermoplastic road marking and reflective glass beads later on.<\/p>\n
