Presence of SO2 levels, oxides of nitrogen, suspended particulate matter and respirable suspended particulate matter were the important parameters tested for checking the pollution level.

According to the guidelines of Union ministry for urban development service-level benchmarks are a must for Comprehensive Mobility Plan. The benchmarks are an indicator of how effectively and efficiently the present transportation system is performing in the existing situation. Performance indicators describe the levels of transport performance in the cities, its safety and access, air pollution, accidents, congestion and economic aspects of transportation division in the city.

Comprehensive Mobility Plan also indicates that Trivandrum has scored fairly well for public transport facilities.

Comprehensive Mobility Plan also indicates that Trivandrum has scored fairly well for public transport facilities. However, score for integrated land use transport system was below average. There was also less coherence between city structure and public transport system. The CMP also has found that public transport in the city was financially sustainable, but needs considerable improvements.

Coming to availability of parking spaces, Trivandrum was marked poor. The travel speed along major corridors was also very low due to high signal density, extensive queuing at critical intersections and inappropriate signal timing. Trivandrum was also rated poor when it comes to non-motorized transport (NMT) and intelligent traffic surveillance facilities. Pedestrian facilities such as footpaths, street lights, etc. need improvement.

Recommendations of the CMP

CMP recommends city authorities to initiate immediate actions to provide adequate parking facilities. The CMP has suggested multi-stored commercial-cum-parking complexes at 15 locations and shared parking in various public institutions. Pedestrianization of certain stretches and cycle tracks for upcoming projects are some of the suggestions in the plan.

According to the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) prepared by National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (Natpac), Trivandrum is the city with lowest levels of pollution.
