The total project cost is estimated at Rs. 7 Lakh. The renovation works will be completed in 2 phases. Under phase one, naalukettu and the Sreepadam pond will be restored while a numismatic museum will come up in the second phase.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>To beautify the surroundings landscaping will be done and seating facilities will be arranged for visitors. A walkway will also come up soon.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The work on the 50-year-old naalukettu is on full swing and will be opened to public in two months. The naalukettu has got a new floor, done in traditional red and black oxide. Teak wood was used to fashion new rafters for the roof. \u00a0Meanwhile, the Sreepadam pond has been cleaned and its sidewalls have been strengthened. It is believed that water from the temple fills the pond.<\/p>\n<p>To beautify the surroundings landscaping will be done and seating facilities will be arranged for visitors. A walkway will also come up soon.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In the second phase, a numismatics museum with a scientific display system will come up here.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In the second phase, a numismatics museum with a scientific display system will come up here. \u00a0It will also have emperor Ashoka\u2019s \u2018karshapanam;\u2019 silver punch-marked coins issued by traders\u2019 guilds and recovered from Angamaly and Eyyal in Thrissur; Roman trade coins of one sovereign each found from Valluvally in Ernakulam and Kottayam; and Travancore coins such as pagoda, Anantha rayan and Anantha varahan. Besides coins, the museum will display artefacts and pictures that shed light on the times gone by, the heritage, and the culture.<\/p>\n<p>The Keralam \u2013 Museum of History and Heritage is the implementing agency behind the naalukettu and pond-renovation works. The work is carried out by Costford. The project started in December 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Originally called as Sreepada Theerthakara Kandukondedathu Koyikkal, the place and 1.16 hectares of land on which it stands were acquired by the government from the royal family of erstwhile Travancore at a cost of Rs.1.7 crore.<\/p>\n<p>The palace is a fine example of traditional and colonial architectural styles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sreepadam Palace in the Fort heritage zone here will soon be restored to its former glory.
