After closing down for renovation for more than 2 years, the Priyadarshini Planetarium, was opened to the public. The planetarium opens just in time for the Onam vacation.<\/p>\n
The renovated Priyadarshini Planetarium is equipped with hybrid planetarium projection system (HPPS) making it India’s first hybrid planetarium. With the biggest 17m dome tilted at 15 degrees installed by the US-based Astrotec firm with maximum area for projection and having a screen area of 4,913 sq ft, this planetarium offers the best 3D visual experience that surpasses cinema theatres and planetariums in South India.<\/p>\n
Four shows are planned on a day for the public, including three shows in Malayalam and one in English.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The number of seats has gone up from the 150 earlier to 240 and are arranged as in a gallery or a cinema. The revamp includes the best in comfy seats with more leg room. Tickets for those under 12 years come at Rs 30. The rest have to pay Rs 60.<\/p>\n
Four shows are planned on a day for the public, including three shows in Malayalam and one in English. The first show will be at 10.30am, then at 12 noon, 3pm and 5pm. Scheduled shows or special shows will be organized based on bulk booking from schools or organizations. Visitors can request for special shows at the helpdesk. A minimum of 25 members have to be there for a show.<\/p>\n
There is also an \u2018exploratorium\u2019 that automatically calculates a visitors weight on other planets will be displayed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
There is also a new astronomy gallery comprising 15 exhibits which cover the history of space science, the stalwarts of space and various telescopes, including reflective and refractive ones. If one’s weight on earth is 54kg, his\/her weight on Moon will be 8.9kg, on Mars 20.3kg and the highest, on Jupiter, with 127.6kg.<\/p>\n
