These rankings are based on the extent of open defecation and solid waste management practices.\u00a0 Six cities from Kerala were assessed as part of the survey conducted during 2014-15 by the Ministry of Urban Development.<\/p>\n
However it\u2019s sad to see that Trivandrum is in 8th place, as this city was once the cleanest city in whole of India. But on the bright side, it\u2019s a huge achievement for Trivandrum City, as it came after the controversial closure of the centralised treatment plant at Vilappilsala in 2011.<\/p>\n

The pipe combust project only reached 80,000 homes and there is no plant to treat plastic waste. \u00a0Due to lack of proper waste management people are dumping waste on roads, which in turn cause epidemics. The sewage treatment plant at Muttathara dubbed as the largest in India is also yet to be commissioned.<\/p>\n
In Kochi, unlike the capital city, waste management is still centralised, with Bhramapuram plant processing around 200 tonnes a day.<\/p>\n
