The road widening works of Kazhakkoottam-Mukkola National Highway will begin by the end of this month, making a 40 year old dream to come true.<\/p>\n

Already KNR Constructions, which won the bid has brought heavy machineries such as vibratory roller, earthmovers and graders from the Valayar-Wadakkancherry stretch where it was engaged in road widening works.<\/p>\n
However, PWD authorities are yet to handover the stretch due to delay in shifting of utilities. And the Kerala water authority (KWA) is yet to replace unused pipes on the stretch. The NHAI officials said that they have informed KWA that their contractors will replace the pipeline if KWA could not complete it on time.<\/p>\n
Sources in the PWD said that there was confusion over whether to demolish or retain the flyover near Chackai which was constructed without the permission of NHAI. No decision has been taken whether to retain or demolish it.<\/p>\n
Another worrying problem is that, the social forestry department has not given permission to cut around 6,000 trees on the stretch yet. The tree protection committee (TPC) was asked to conduct a joint inspection to take a list of number of trees that must be protected.<\/p>\n
The Union government has recently given sanction to widen the 26.5km stretch in EPC model (engineering, procurement and construction mode), where the government will pay the project cost as lump sum amount to the contractor.<\/p>\n
The government will collect toll from the road. The land acquisition on the remaining stretch from Mukkola to Karode is progressing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
