The beautification works of the Kanakakunnu Palace Grounds is progressing in a fast pace. Authorities are completing the remaining works on a war-foot basis to reopen the place to public before Onam.<\/p>\n

The objective is to convert Kanakakunnu into a favourite spot for families to relax in the evenings.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Initially the project was estimated to cost Rs 3.05 Crore but in order to include \u2018Nishagandhi Open Air Auditorium into the beautification work, an additional Rs2 Crore was allotted. Almost 90% of the works in Nishagandhi is over. The work is carried out on a 24 hour basis by more than 250 workers.<\/p>\n

The project is aimed at recapturing the glory, legacy and beauty of the palace. The work is being entrusted to the Kerala Land Development Corporation (KLDC). The renovation is being carried out while protecting traditional and archaeological character of the palace as well as in a nature-friendly manner.<\/p>\n

The project is carried out on the 10 acre of the total 38 acre. The project comprises renovating the Kanakakunnu Garden, setting up lights, constructing lawns to showcase its natural beauty, planting trees, widening the parking area, constructing the age-old stone steps (kalpadavukkal) from the entrance to the palace, royal gates and putting up new direction boards. The project also includes widening of walkway around the palace for the public.<\/p>\n
