Among these cities, the rate of such rash driving and road rage cases per 1 lakh population is also the highest with 634 recorded in Kochi and 522 cases in Trivandrum. The national average was little over 60. The capital city witnessed 8,816 incidents injuring 8,829 persons during the same period.\u00a0 Of the 96,648 accidents reported across the country, Kochi\u2019s share was an alarming 13.89%.<\/p>\n

In fact, of the 7 cities from the State featured in the list. Kannur, reported 471 incidents injuring 791 persons; Thrissur witnessed 3,233 incidents injuring 3,325 persons and for Kollam it was 1,418 incidents, 1,420 injured. Roads in Malappuram and Kozhikode were relatively safer with 1,298 and 1,982 incidents of rash driving and road rage reported from these cities respectively injuring 1,388 and 1,998 persons.<\/p>\n
The main reason behind high rate in Kerala is due to the high volume of vehicle density and less road space especially on highways. It’s high time that Highways in Kerala should be widened to national standard of 60 meters, not 30 meters.
