As the uncertainty looms over the multicore light metro project for Trivandrum and Kozhiode, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has offered full funding for the project.<\/p>\n

JICA has over to provide full funding for the Rs.6,728-crore Light Metro project in Trivandrum and Kozhikode. The finical support for the project was made by Deputy Director, South Asia Division-1, India and Bhutan, South Asia Department, JICA, Tokyo, Sunouchi Thesuhiko during the meeting with managing director, Kerala Rapid Transit Corporation Ltd, P.I. Sheikh Pareeth.<\/p>\n

JICA has informed Kerala Rapid Transit Corporation (KRTL) to make necessary fund for the project excluding the land acquisition cost in the two cities. Within 10 days, the terms for the ‘Special Terms for Economic Partnership’ loan will be finalised. The loan being offered is with a moratorium of 10 years period and total repayment period of 40 years.<\/p>\n

JICA officials accompanied by the DMRC officials visited the Ulloor-Palayam corridor through which Light Metro has been proposed in the capital.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that the state government will seek the central government’s support for speedy clearance of the Light Metro project. The DPR will be sent to Central Government (Ministry of Urban Affairs) for approval and their approval has to be obtained.
