If all goes well Vattiyurkavu will soon be developed into a satellite township.<\/p>\n
The plan is to develop Vattiyurkavu area as a satellite township as the city is expanding outwards. A separate scheme will be launched to develop the Vattiyurkavu Junction too which is currently congested with traffic.<\/p>\n
The project needs 4 acres and 25 cents of land for development of the junction. A 300- metre long stretch of road leading to the junction will also be widened as part of its improvement. A sum of Rs.50 crore is needed for this. For rehabilitation of those evicted families, 43 cents will be acquired by preparing a separate scheme. Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson has been entrusted with the task of taking immediate steps in this regard.<\/p>\n
Once land acquissition is complete, the three roads leading from Vattiyurkavu junction to Sasthamangalam, to Peroorkada and to Vazhayila will be widened by 20 metres to ensure free flow of traffic. As much as 26.5 acres of land is to be acquired along the three roads for widening the carriageway. The development of these roads from the junction would be taken up in phase II of the scheme.<\/p>\n
As part of Vattiyurkavu satellite township project, various infrastructure development projects are envisaged. This include construction of a modern market plaza and a public plaza. The current bus stand will be upgraded to a central bus station and foot overbridge will be constructed so as to ensure smooth flow of traffic at intersections.<\/p>\n
The project was announced at a high-level meeting convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy late last month. The meeting was convened at the instance of K. Muraleedharan, sitting MLA of Vattiyurkavu.
