The Union Ministry of Tourism has given an in-principle nod for an Rs.287 crore worth project to renovate Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple and its environs.<\/p>\n

The mega project aims to develop temple premises into a ‘pilgrim town’, as part of heritage tourism development. The first phase of the project alone will cost Rs.100 crore and would be approved this fiscal.<\/p>\n
The design was prepared by Chennai-based Raghuram Associates in consultation with the tourism department and the temple administration. According to the design, the main four nadas of the temple would get granite walkways and a proper drainage system around the temple area will be built underground. Nambi priests’ existing shelters would be restored and police personnel would be provided proper accommodation.<\/p>\n
The place will also get a recreation area with walkways and lots of green spaces.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The two ponds – Padmatheertham and Mitranandapuram will also be cleansed, making it free from pollutants. The cleaning of Padmatheertham pond alone would cost Rs 8 crore. While Mitranandapuram pond would be renovated after cleansing it.<\/p>\n
Other works include setting up a proper canteen, a dining hall, recreation space and greenery around the temple. Also, overhead cable lines in the area would be replaced with underground cables.<\/p>\n
State tourism department and temple administration will convene a meeting to discuss the project details. Government aims to complete the project in 3 phases in 3 years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
