In its CMP, Natpac has suggested 10 short-term solutions, including junction improvements and walkways to improve the safety and accessibility of pedestrians and public transport users in Trivandrum.<\/p>\n<p>The short-term proposals which cost at least Rs.300 crore is planning to be executed in the next 5 years.<\/p>\n<h3>Solar LED streetlights and Line Markings<\/h3>\n<p>The proposals include road markings and delineation in 228 km at a cost of Rs.22.8 crore and installation of solar-powered LED streetlights along 253 km at a cost of Rs.85.3 crore. The markings suggested include centreline, edge line, stop, zebra crossing, chevron marking and reflectors and road studs.<\/p>\n<h3>Wi-Fi Bus shelters and dedicated Walkways<\/h3>\n<p>Other plans include setting up of 577 bus shelters and bus bay at a cost of Rs.114 crore. These bus shelters will have modern facilities such as drinking water, solar-panelled roofs, mobile charging units and even Wi-Fi facilities. 100km walkways are proposed on the NH 66 stretch from Amaravila to Karamana, Uloor to Korani, NH bypass, Thirumala to Peyad, Peroorkada to Vazhayila, Pallimukku to Airport, Attakulangara to Thiruvallom, Kazhakuttom to Technopark and Kochuveli to Anayara.<\/p>\n<h3>Pedestrianization of some areas<\/h3>\n<p>Areas such as Killipalam to Gandhi Park, Entrance to East Fort and Transport Bhavan to Pazhavangadi corridors need to be made pedestrian-friendly by enforcing curbs on vehicles from 9:30AM to 1:30PM and from 4PM to 8PM. For the 2.2-km scheme, it will cost Rs.0.5 crore.<\/p>\n<h3>Junction Improvements<\/h3>\n<p>Another proposal listed in the CMP is junction improvements. Junctions located at Pettah, Maruthankuzhy, Vattiyoorkavu, Nettayam, Jacobs, Jagathy, Thirumala, Ambalathara, Vizhinjam, Kumarapuram, Kannamoola, Pongumoodu, Valiyathura and Choorakkatupalayam need to be improved to accommodate more traffic. This will cost Rs.20 crore.<\/p>\n<h3>Solution to parking problem<\/h3>\n<p>Paid off-street parking will be introduced at eight busy roads in the city. In addition to that, construction of multi-level parking lots, ban on on-street parking of trucks would be carried out. At areas such as East Fort, Ayurveda College and Thampanoor one-way regulations need to be implemented.
