Earlier Natpac proposed some short-term<\/a> and long-term plans to upgrade Trivandrum’s road infrastructure. Now Natpac has listed even more plans to ease mobility in Trivandrum in its Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for the city.<\/p>\n

As per the latest report, skywalks, cycle tracks, jogger\u2019s path, flyovers, foot overbridges, widening of 102 km of road and multi-level car parking facilities are the some of the highlights of the medium-term proposals. The skywalks, cycle tracks and joggers path will improve the safety of pedestrians and accessibility to road users. The project is estimated to cost at least Rs.2124.30 crore.<\/p>\n

A 3.8Km long Skywalks have been proposed in busy corridors at a cost of Rs.57 crore. The areas include Thampanoor railway station to KSRTC central bus station, Thampanoor to East Fort via Power House road, East Fort to Attakulangara, Ulloor to Medical College and Kazhakuttam bus terminal to Technopark and MRTS station.<\/p>\n

A 2-metre wide dedicated cycle tracks on either side of the road have been proposed on 40 km city roads. This kind of cycle tracks are very common in European countries such as the UK and Netherlands. The estimated cost is Rs.12 crore. Areas such as NH 66 bypass from Kazhakuttam to Kovalam, Kesavadasapuram-Nalanchira, SC Bose Junction-Sasthamangalam, Thycaud-Kowdiar, Murinjapalam-Kowdiar and Kochuveli-Anayara are recommended to have cycle tracks.<\/p>\n

A dedicated Joggers\u2019 path has been recommended along the Parvathy Puthanar canal that links Akkulam tourist village, Veli tourist village and Kovalam beach. The 16.5-km path is expected to cost Rs.13.2 crore.<\/p>\n

Foot Overbridge<\/h3>\n

Foot Overbridge are proposed to ensure hassle-free movement of pedestrians without disturbing vehicle traffic. Five overbridges have been recommended near St. Mary\u2019s School, Pattom, VJT Hall, Overbridge Junction and Vazhuthacaud at a cost of Rs.17.5 crore.<\/p>\n

Apart from these Natpac also suggested widening of 102km road located in Corporation limits, Neyyattinkara and adjoining 8 panchayats. The project is estimated to cost Rs.1,224 crore. Eight flyovers have been proposed at a cost of Rs.400 crore in locations having more than 3,000 passenger car unit (pcu) now. These junctions include Kazhakuttam, Sreekaryam, Ulloor, Pattom, Kesavadasapuram, Thampanoor, Peroorkada and Balaramapuram.<\/p>\n

The CMP, to be submitted later this month to the government, lists proposals to solve the traffic and transportation problems of the capital.<\/p>\n
