The renovation program will be implemented in two phases and is estimated to cost between Rs 5 crore to Rs 7 crore.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Padmatheertham pond will be restored to its former glory and will be retained as a source of safe to drink, pure water.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The pond will be restored to its former glory. As a first step, the pond was dewatered and cleaned ahead of monsoon, and was refilled during rains. Once the renovation is complete, the pond will be retained as a source of safe to drink, pure water, said officials.<\/p>\n<p>The first phase works include renovation of the bathing ghats for men and women devotees. Each ghat will have the facility for 100 persons to take the holy dip at a time. The ghats will also have granite flooring with steel fencing on three sides for safety. A 50m long queue complex starting near the Methan Mani and extending up to the stone pavements leading to the temple will be constructed. The first phase works will be completed before May 31, 2016.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Once the project gets completed, temple surroundings will become a beautiful place in the city to visit.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Second phase focuses on landscaping and beautification. A paved pathway from the pond to the temple, with benches for the visitors\u2019 comfort will be constructed.\u00a0 The whole area will be landscaped with trees and lawn. Heritage mandapams near the pond would also be renovated and a separate facility for rainwater harvesting would be set up near the temple.\u00a0 Once the renovation of the pond is completed, Padmatheertham Pond and its surroundings will become an attractive place to visit.<\/p>\n<p>The government would provide Rs.1 crore for the renovation work. The government had already sanctioned Rs.1 crore, of which Rs.25 lakh was spent to clean up the tank after draining it.<\/p>\n<p>The last major renovation of the pond took place in the year 1989, by pumping out the water and cleaning the bed.
