India’s largest IT Park, the Technopark is going green with its first-of-its-kind integrated and centralised waste management plant, set to be inaugurated on September 30.<\/p>\n

A successful five month trial run of the plant has already been held at the park. The IT hub, with 40,000 IT professionals, functions 24 hours and produces three tonnes of solid waste every day. Now with the new centralised waste management plant, Technopark can dispose the waste in an eco-friendly, economically viable manner.<\/p>\n

The integrated waste management system has biogas plants, bio bins, incinerator, plastic shredding unit, etc. to treat all types of wastes at the source level itself. Food which has more than 40% water content will be treated in biogas plant and those below 40% water content will be treated in bio bins. These bio bins will convert waste into fertilizer in just 16 days using accelerated decaying by spraying bio culture.<\/p>\n

Other wastes such as napkins, diapers, used tissue, etc will be burned using an incinerator. The highly efficient incinerator emits pollution-free white smoke. The biogas plant has a capacity to treat 2 tonnes of waste a day and a bio bin has a capacity of one tonne.<\/p>\n

The waste will be segregated and sorted even before it reaches the plant. Three colour coded buckets – red, green and blue will be placed in all the offices at Technopark. Food waste will go to green bucket, materials that could be reused and recycled go to blue one and used tissue, diapers, napkins, etc goes to red bucket.\u00a0 The major reason for failure of Vilappilsala was the reluctant attitude of people to segregate waste.<\/p>\n

Technopark and the companies under it had been studying different waste management systems since December 2011. The integrated waste management system is being launched with the support of Credai clean city movement.<\/p>\n
