Google is all set to collaborate with the Indian Railways to provide Wi-Fi services at 500 stations by next year.<\/p>\n

Google also promises that its Wi-Fi will be many times faster than what most people in India have access to today<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Now, Google has shed more details on its ambitious project titled ‘Project Nilgiri’. The Internet giant has released a map that shows the first 100 railway stations that will get high-speed Wi-Fi. \u00a0The map was posted in Google\u2019s official blog.<\/a><\/p>\n

Although the map is vague about station names, it is safe to say that 5 railway station from Kerala has got into the list. Most probable stations that get Wi-Fi are Trivandrum, Kollam, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kannur. Assuming that the location pins point to the actual places on the map, CNN-IBN complied a more detailed map.<\/p>\n

“Even with just the first 100 stations online, this project will make Wi-Fi available for the more than 10 million people who pass through every day. This will rank it as the largest public Wi-Fi project in India, and among the largest in the world, by number of potential users. It will also be fast\u2014many times faster than what most people in India have access to today,” Sundar Pichai, CEO, Google wrote on the company’s official blog.<\/p>\n

Best of all, the service will be free to start, with the long-term goal of making it self-sustainable to allow for\u00a0expansion\/<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Google also promises that its Wi-Fi will be many times faster than what most people in India have access to today, allowing travellers to stream a high definition video. Google has tied up with RailTel, Railway’s own internet, to provide the infrastructure needed to set up the wireless broadband network.<\/p>\n
