A national dance museum, showcasing the evolution, heritage and diversity of dance forms in India and abroad has opened its gates in Trivandrum.<\/p>\n
Claimed to be the first in the country, the Rs.12 crore<\/strong> national dance museum is located on two acres of land in Vattiyoorkavu. Called as Guru Gopinath National Dance Museum (GGNDM), the centre will showcase the evolution, heritage and diversity of dance forms all over the world.<\/p>\n Claimed to be the first in the country, the Rs.12 crore<\/strong> national dance museum is located on two acres of land in Vattiyoorkavu.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Promoted by Guru Gopinath Natanagramam, an institution under the department of culture, the museum has been named after Kathakali maestro Dr Guru Gopinath (Guruji). GGNDM is envisaged as a centre for display, documentation, dissemination, education and research, pertaining to the heritage of dances in the country and the world.<\/p>\n The Museum has a total built-up area of 42,000-square feet on three floors. The visitors would get an in-depth picture of dance at the museum through thematic exhibitions containing statuettes, models and collections of various dance forms, costumes, photo galleries, memorabilia, musical instruments and other materials.<\/p>\n In the second phase a 5-D theatre that shows\u00a0short 5D movies on various dance forms will be setup.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n An audio-visual presentation of various dance forms and a digital library, too, is available. In the second phase a 5-D theatre and a wax museum will be setup. \u00a0The 5-D theatre will have short 5D movies on various dance forms shown at periodic intervals. A 20 foot high statue of sage Bharata is an added attraction at the museum campus.<\/p>\n The central government had allocated a grant of Rs.6 crore for the museum.
