The work on the widening of the NH bypass stretch is progressing in a fast pace. The work was officially started on September 1.<\/p>\n
The first phase of the land clearing works and the removal of debris and encroachment are currently progressing fast. The land clearing works are progressing from both ends i.e. from Kovalam and Kazhakootam. The eviction drive carried out by the respective departments has reached till Karikkakom.<\/p>\n

NHAI said that there was resistance from encroachers and shop owners. But the officials were able to resolve it soon.<\/p>\n
\u201cThough there have been some resistance from the encroachers, we managed to resolve it. The encroachments including a part of an apartment building has also been razed down with the help of local police. Some encroachments are being removed by the encroachers itself. However, major part of eviction is expected to be completed within a week,\u201d<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, other minor works such as utility shifting and putting pipelines are progressing. However, the issue of axing the trees are still on deadlock. A high-level meeting, under the Chief Secretary, will be held on Tuesday to find the solution.<\/p>\n
The 26 kilometre NH bypass from Kazhakaopotam to Mukkola will be widened to 45meters at a cost of Rs 845.26 crore<\/strong>.
