The renovation program aims to restore the pier to its former glory. Rs.17.5 crores will be used to develop floating breakwater and construction a boat jetty. Government has already given sanction for the environment impact assessment study. An amount Rs.15lakhs have been allocated for this.<\/p>\n
In order to provide basic amenities for the tourists arriving at the place, a waiting shed, a cloakroom, toilet facilities, ticket counters and a cafeteria will be setup. Apart from these solar lamps, safety railings and other security measures will be constructed. The pier will also have park benches for the visitors to enjoy the sunset and sea view.<\/p>\n
When the renovation project gets completed it will become another hangout place for Trivandrumites.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Valiyathura pier which has a length of 214 meters was inaugurated on September 10, 1956 and had celebrated its 58th anniversary last month. The existing pier was built to replace the old pier which was destroyed when a steam ship, SS Pandit, rammed on it on November 23, 1947.<\/p>\n
Valiyathura Pier that was once a bustling port used to bring in goods to Trivandrum is now a lonely spot often enjoyed by Trivandrumites who come to the Shangumukham beach.<\/p>\n
