Beautification and clean-up drive in progress!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With tourism season about to start, Kovalam is gearing up for a makeover. The plan is to make Kovalam beach more appealing to the tourists. Tourism secretary Kamalavardhana Rao visited the place the other day and assessed the progress.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/news.entecity.com\/vizhinjam-project-rs-475-crore-rehab-package-approved\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rs.475 Crore Rehab package approved for\u00a0Vizhinjam Project<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>The renovation of the beach area will be completed within a month.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The renovation of the beach area will be completed within a month. The surfacing of road Hawa Beach will be completed in two weeks. In some places, tiles will be paved instead of bitumen. New tiles will be paved along the walkway leading to the beach. The damaged street lights at the beach will be replaced with new ones. It is learned that some anti-social elements are deliberately damaging the lights. Steps will be taken to prevent such incidents. A beach protection council will be formed by including traders and shop owners in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Waste management and cleanliness are\u00a0the\u00a0main issue Kovalam is facing. Some hotels are directly discarding waste water into the beach. Those hotels have been warned to stop the practise within 3 days. Tourism secretary said that, strict action will be taken against those hotels which does this practise. DTPC officials have been appointed to check and prevent such practises. Tourism authorities are also planning to rope in Kudumbasree to clean up the entire beach.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Waste management and cleanliness are\u00a0the\u00a0main issue Kovalam is facing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A meeting has been convened on 15th of this month to discuss the problems faced by Kovalam beach.
